Call for Applicants: American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant
The Livestrong Cancer Institutes at Dell Medical School at The university of Texas at Austin offer the American Cancer Society Institutional Review Grant.
The Institutional Research Grant is a longstanding and integral component of the national American Cancer Society research portfolio intended to promote and support the development of new independent investigators for careers in cancer-related research. At UT Austin, the ACS IRG is directed by the Livestrong Cancer Institutes.
The grant supports early-stage faculty from any college or school by funding exceptional pilot projects that span all areas and disciplines of cancer research, including laboratory, clinical, prevention and control, and psychosocial studies. Major goals of these pilot funds are to generate preliminary results to successfully compete for national research grants and foster direct relationships between UT Austin and the local ACS chapter.
For each of the five awards, up to $30,000 will be funded by the American Cancer Society and up to $20,000 in matching funds provided by UT Austin components, including the Office of Vice President of Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors, Dell Medical School, the College of Natural Sciences, the Cockrell School of Engineering, the College of Liberal Arts, the Moody School of Communications, the School of Nursing, the Steve Hicks School of Social Work or the College of Pharmacy.
- Applicants must be instructors, research assistant professors or assistant professors at
the time of the award and within six years of their first independent research or
faculty appointment.
- Applicants cannot have received prior, or hold current, major independent funding from a national peer-reviewed source, including the NIH (e.g., K99/R00, R01), NSF, ACS, AHA, DOD, etc.
- Applicants holding nationally available career development awards are eligible to apply.
- Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents must hold a visa that will allow them to remain in the U.S. long enough to complete the scope of their application.

PIVOT is a database that provides access to the most comprehensive source of research and training funding opportunities globally. These include local, county, state resources as well as opportunities offered by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, private foundations, nonprofits and others.

Internal Research Funding
Dell Medical School is developing a process for securing internal research funding for research initiatives that further the strategic mission and vision of the school. Current programs tied to the school that offer funding include the Texas Health Catalyst, Ascension Seton-UT Austin CHASP Research Collaborative and Health Communications Scholars Program. The research support team at Dell Med assists researchers with applying for funding and managing awards. The team also assists new investigators with transferring grants to UT Austin.
